Der Verband ist als ein internationaler Verein mit dem Ziel gegründet worden, alle europäischen mittelständischen Unternehmen zu vertreten, und zwar auf juristischem, beruflichem, wirtschaftlichem, sozialem und kulturellem Gebiet.

mittelständischen Unternehmen und Angehörigen der freien Berufe aus allen europäischen Ländern sowie den an die EUMU angeschlossenen Mittelstandsverbänden ein Forum und eine Repräsentanz in Brüssel in Nähe der EU-Institutionen zu geben.

zudem als offizielle Organisation die grundlegenden Interessen der Mitglieder der EUMU und aller europäischen kleinen und mittleren Unternehmen (KMU) sowohl bei den Institutionen der EU wie auch in der Öffentlichkeit zu vertreten. Da die EU das Gespräch mit den Unternehmern sucht, geht es für die EUMU dabei auch darum, das praktische Wissen ihrer Mitglieder in die Diskussionsprozesse um neue EU-Richtlinien und Bestimmungen einzubringen. 

Europa im 21. Jahrhundert: Binnenmarkt, EU-Osterweiterung, Europäische Verfassung, Harmonisierung usw. - die Gemeinschaft vergrößert und verändert sich. Neue Geschäfts- und Betätigungsmöglichkeiten werden sich eröffnen, aber auch schon bestehende sich verändern. 

Im Zentrum der Verbandsarbeit steht daher das Ziel, die Chancen und Risiken für kleine und mittlere Unternehmen im bestehenden und zukünftigen europäischen Binnenmarkt aufzuzeigen das länderübergreifende unternehmerische Handeln unserer Mitglieder zu fördern bzw. zu erleichtern, d.h. darin zu unterstützen, neue Märkte für Produktion und Absatz zu erschließen. 

Von besonderer Wichtigkeit ist folglich die Einrichtung eines Netzwerks, über das Informationen hinsichtlich Chancen und Bedingungen zu wirtschaftlicher Betätigung gesammelt und ausgetauscht werden können und dabei auch der persönliche Kontakt zu möglichen Geschäftspartnern in anderen EU-Ländern hergestellt werden kann. 

Das politische Geschehen in Europa wird bestimmt von unzähligen Akteuren und Entscheidungsträgern, einer Fülle von Machtzentren, zahllosen Informationswegen und Sachverhalten. Daraus abgeleitet ergeben sich Rahmenbedingungen, die bei der konkreten Arbeit

des Verbandes zu berücksichtigen sind:

Da sind zunächst die EU-Institutionen selbst, die nun schon seit fast fünf Jahrzehnten einen immensen Bestand an Vorschriften, Regelungen und Gesetzen hervorgebracht haben. Auch aktuell werden dort die unterschiedlichsten Vorhaben und Projekte diskutiert und vorbereitet. 

Die Kenntnis vom Stand des bisher Vorliegenden und den aktuellen Bestrebungen stellt bereits eine gewaltige Aufgabe in sich selbst dar. Hinter allem steht schließlich ein extrem umfangreiches Angebot an gedrucktem und in elektronischer Form abrufbaren Informationen über nahezu alle Aspekte des Wirkens der EU.

Es ist eine Aufgabe der EUMU diesen Wissensschatz zu erschließen und unseren Mitgliedern für eine gezielte Nutzung zur Verfügung zu stellen. Hierbei sind auch die EU-Förderprogramme, die sich direkt an KMU richten, mit zu berücksichtigen.

Da europäische Politik, Wirtschafts- und Sozialpolitik, und auch zum Teil EU-Politik, noch vorwiegend auf nationaler Ebene stattfinden, gehören die politischen Handlungszentren in den Metropolen Europas mit zum Aktionsfeld der Verbandsarbeit der EUMU.

Unbestritten soll die Tatsache sein, dass auch andere Organisationen und Verbände auf EU-Ebene die Sache der KMU vertreten und fördern. Wir streben eine Koordination unserer politischen Aktivitäten an. 

Die konkrete Bearbeitung von Sachthemen und Projekten findet auf folgenden

Objectives & Functions

The Association was founded as an international organization with the aim of representing all European small and medium-sized enterprises in legal, professional, economic, social and cultural matters.

Its main goal consists in

Representing small and medium-sized enterprises and the self-employed from all European countries as well as EU-affiliated associations of small and medium-sized businesses, and to provide them with a representative office close to EU institutions.

Further, to be the official organization promoting the primary interests of all European small and medium-sized enterprises both to EU institutions and to a wider public. Since the EU seeks to enter into dialogue with entrepreneurs, the EUSME is also concerned with bringing the practical knowledge of its members to bear on new EU guidelines and regulations.

Europe in the 21st century: domestic market, expansion to the East, European Constitution, Harmonisation, etc. - the community is expanding and changing. New business opportunities will open, and at the same time, existing opportunities will be affected.

The following activities are therefore at the forefront of the Association´s work:

Pointing out the opportunities and risks for SMEs in both the existing and the future European domestic market;

Facilitating and promoting trade across national borders for our members through support of new markets for production and sales.

Of particular importance is the establishment of a network for the exchance and collection of information about opportunities and conditions for economic activities and personal contacts with possible business partners in other EU countries.

Countless actors and decision-makers, from a number of centres, with various sources of information about diverse circumstances, influence the political events taking place in Europe. For these reasons, the Association´s work must take into account the following general framework:

The EU institutions themselves, which for almost 50 years have amassed regulations and legal statutes, merit the particular consideration of the EUSME. Current projects of various kinds are also debated and elaborated there, and the association has a part to play in relevant ongoing developments. 

Knowledge of former and current plans, as well as projects, constitutes a substantial task. After all, a vast source of both print and electronic data about all aspects of the EU`s functioning provides the underpinning of all successful business.

It is the duty of the EUSME to tap this knowledge base for the good of our members, whereby EU programmes created for the support of small businesses, constitute an important component of this work.

Because European politics, economic and social policies, and to some extent EU-policies are still determined mainly at the national level, work at the level of Europe´s decision-making centres also forms part of the Association´s duties.

Without question, other organizations and associations at the EU level also support the aims of SMEs We will make every effort to coordinate our political activities with theirs.
